Cast iron cookware can be tricky to clean if you don’t know the basics. Chainmail scrubbers make it a lot easier but they can be expensive to say the least. Recently, I came across a post on the cast iron subreddit about making your own scrubber.
It involved ordering your own open jump rings and watching a simple video. After I watched the video I went ahead and ordered the rings so I could give this a shot for myself.
I figured it couldn’t hurt to learn how to make these. If you can follow along with a YouTube tutorial you can save yourself a little cash. I’m always looking for something new to keep me busy anyway.
Making your cast iron chain mail scrubber
- Stainless Steel Open Jump Rings.
- A few pairs of pliers.
- Learn how to make chainmail.
- A few hours or so of your time.
One thing to keep in mind is that your time is always worth something. Only you can decide how much that is. This whole process will most likely take around four or five hours so. If you factor that in you’re not saving as much as it would seem.
I personally like learning new things and making stuff. I don’t mind spending a part of my day learning a new skill and getting something that I can use forever out of it. If you’re like me than you won’t mind it either.
